How can I get my guppies to mate, what should I do when the female guppy is in labor?

When will my guppies mate i have 2 males and 2 females or i think i do, how can u tell them apart? I had them for at least a month, do I have to wait longer? I have so many questions, I just want them to mate and know how to take good care of them. Can someone tell me, I am really clueless about this?

Haha, waco, do you know what guppies are?

To the asker- your fish will be happier if you have three females for every one male. If you only have one female for each male the males will probably start fighting and get stressed. Females usually have much smaller tails and have very little color, while the males have big tails and lots of color.

You’ve probably had the fish too long for you to exchange, see if maybe a friend wants one of your male guppies and then go buy another female, so you still have only four fish. You don’t just want to buy more females because once you have the babies, you’ll run out of room quickly and you want as much space as possible.

If your fish are happy and healthy, which doesn’t take much at all, you’ll get babies. Lots of babies. In fact, at this point they’re probably already pregnant.

Now, as for once you have the babies, I like to just add lots of plants and hiding places and leave them in the tank. This way, instead of getting dozens and dozens of guppies that need new homes, you’ll get two or three strong babies each time that you can keep in your tank, and you don’t have to worry about overcrowding.

I can’t tell you much more than that, sorry. I think the fry (the baby fish) need special food but I don’t know what, I’ve only ever bred mollies. Hopefully someone else will be able to fill you in on that. Good luck!

What is that new fish that has a shark head and a fish body?

I saw a new animal on the news that has a Shark head but a fish body, what is it called?

A shark doesn’t have a fish body? I thought it did, so I’m confused. Shark and salmon, any bony fish for that matter, have a completely different breeding and egg-laying procedure, and we won’t even go into the differences between bony fish vs. cartilagenous fish’s physiology, so I don’t even see how this could be possible. I think someone is pulling your leg or this is yet another one of those urban myths.

can i have an aquarium tank without an air pump?

I have about six fish in a 5 gallon tank with lots of aquatic plants… will my fish survive without an air pump?if so what kind of fish can i keep?

You sure can. As long as you havea filter that breaks the surface of the water it will introduce oxygen into the tank for your fish, plus the plants will help – how much depending on what kinds of plants you have.

For a 5 gallon just stick to a few small fish like smaller tetras (neon, glowlight, etc.), corydora catish, ghost shrimp, oto cats, dwarf frogs. Instead of the school of tiny fish you can also go with one non-schooler fish like a betta or a dwarf gourami.

If you have six fish already you’re probably approaching your limit, so make sure the fish you have are suitable and try not to add much more – an overstocked tank is harder to keep clean and healthy then an understocked one.

How do I, or should I clean my live rock in my saltwater aquarium?

I have some ebstablished live rock in my saltwater aquarium. After a number of treatments to ail our ick issue (cooper, ridding ammonia) my live rock has a red fuzzy coating on it and no longer flourishes with bright green algae. How do I get rid of this red stuff?

If you used copper in your main tank … you live rock isn’t going to be live anymore … here’s a link hope it helps

What is an affordable and versatile aquarium controller to be used with fresh water stingrays?

I would like something that will let me know the PH, ammonia/nitrites/nitrates, temperature and water level of my aquariums. Does anyone know of an aquarium controller that can simulate sunrise, sunset, moon cycles, waves, and that kind of thing?

Thanks!

There are controllers and monitors that can do each of the things you want, but I don’t know of any one device that does all of them.

By the way, why do you want to create waves in a stingray tank? Freshwater stingrays are native to rivers, not the ocean. They have current but not waves in their natural habitat.

Feshwater stingrays are rather difficult to keep healthy. Read as much as you can on them before you get one, and be sure you want to make that kind of commitment.

Any special considerations to take when cleaning aquariums containing piranhas?

In addition to my job, I want to start a business cleaning aquariums, and grooming dogs and cats. I want to be prepared to deal with just about anything.

Feed them first. They are pretty skittish fish, so they aren’t much to worry about when they aren’t hungry. If you want, you could use a divider in the tank and clean one half at a time.
