Theres a lot of nice lighting for aquarium these days. But is it really that important?
Aquarium light? Well, It depends, well it’s the same like we are humans who needs light in our everyday life. Too little means trouble and too much will cause problems. I’ve come across this page, http://the-aquarium-light.blogspot.com which gathers pretty good information regards to aquarium light. Maybe you can get more information on aquarium light there. Happy aquriuming!
Yes, not only because it mimics the sun and darkness that we are all accustomed to, but UV rays emitted by aquarium lights provide important vitamins – just like we receive a lot of vitamin D from standing in the sun.

No. Well at least during the day if it gets enough natural light, As long as the water temperature and the water are in good condition. It sure does make the aquarium (no matter what size) look nice. I have a small aquarium and even though the light is not important I do keep it on at night, it just brightens up the room and it’s good for the fish and plants.

Yes, fish need atleast a little light to live, also if you have any live plants in your tank they need light to survive as well.

The fish will generally do fine by normal room light. They just need enough light to see, and you need enough light to see them.
Plants are what need the fancy lighting.
Also corals in a marine tank.
