On a aquarium, were do the intake and outtake part of the filter go when you have a full cover?

Right now I have a 55 gallon aquarium, with a large Marineland, hang on filter. The problem is that I have lets say, a top that was meant for a 35 gallon. I’m planning to buy the whole 55 gallon hood, but I’m wondering, on full hoods were does the intake and out take part of the filter go?

On full hoods, there are sections along the back you can cut out to allow space for filters and other equipment.

There is normally an overhang that allows tubing, light cords, air lines etc to come out. The glass is usually cut such that one or two rear corners are sufficiently open to allow the extrusions.Check before you buy – thats my best advice.

Most hoods have a thin plastic cover that snaps/slides in where the filter goes. You simply cut it to fit your filter and slide it back in.
