Yep, the bigger the filter the better, and 2 filters is great too. I find the most important thing about water changes is vacuuming the gravel thoroughly. Stuff builds up, especially in heavily stocked aquariums.

  2. AudiV8Power says:

Yes, the gravel holds alot of dirt and bacteria. I don’t vacuuming the whole aquarium, just taking half one week, and when it’s time for the other waterchange I just take the other half, so I always can ensure that I’ve got bacteria in my aquarium if I clean the filter etc :)

  3. HolySasquatchTurd says:

Yeah, that’s a technique I use when starting a new tank. I’ll do that for about 6 months. After that time, you can get away with taking out as much gunk in the gravel as you want and not having any spikes in ammonia or nitrite. It takes quite a while for the whole system to allow you to do that.

Great video. If I may share, make sure your added water is the same temperature as the tank water. And, of course, condition the water before adding it. Cheers!

  14. vid4me says:

clean those plants every month pssht i just let the water get really low and fill it back up. i still haven’t cleaned my tank since 3 months ago. that’s why i got a pleco.

  15. MaStErPhReSh333 says:

@joelsfish umm acctualy no. The beneficial builds up in the gravel and growing algae. It does grow in the filter, tubes etc. but if you remove too much water you will remove alot of the good bacteria.

  16. joelsfish says:

Most of your bacteria are going to grow in the filter ( biomedia) , not the water . substrate and decor only count for a very small amount of the total population unless your still using an undergravel . overcleaning the filter is the simplest way to cause a cycle in an established tank. that’s just a fact. I knew better than to clean my tanks this way twenty years ago.

  17. armeniandude99 says:

why doesnt he just remove the top off?

  18. lightbluedemonfly says:

Another thing wrong… You shouldnt jab the siphon like that, it stresses out the fish.

  19. Darthbelal says:

what if you have a tank with live plants? I can’t seem to find any info on that. I don’t think you can just uproot the plants, clean the substrate and throw them back in without really stressing the plants.

    I wanna screw him

  21. shadowangels27 says:

@MaStErPhReSh333 not really. I don’t think thats true. I have a sponge in my filter that allows the bacteria to grow on it. So when I take the filter media OUT, the sponge stays IN, and a new filter media is placed in. =) So I don’t really “lose” any of the bacteria.

  22. wolverine1865 says:

im pretty sure you are not supposed to take the plants out. i mean what if you have baby fish hiding in them

  23. J1SMOKES says:
