How to lower PH for Guppies in Freshwater Aquarium tank?
I recently got my first tank, with three guppies. I’ve noticed that the PH levels are at about 8.0 and know they should really be lower for the little beggars.
How do I reduce this slightly? Thanks in advance.
Leave the pH alone. Better that the pH is slightly off and sable than constantly fluctuating as it will be if you try to "adjust" it
Is there an aquarium stand that can hold 2 55 gallon aquariums at the same time?
Is there an aquarium stand that can hold 2 55 gallon aquariums at the same time? I’m moving and will have less space than I currently have and am wondering if there are any aquarium stands out there that can hold 2 aquariums for my reptiles. They won’t be filled with water so the weight will be less. I remember seeing a stand like this awhile back but haven’t been able to find one like it since.
A stand that can hold them one top, one bottom
you could get someone to build that for you … i had a stand built to hold a 30 gallon, a 15 gallon, and two 2.5 gallons, all stacked … it was 150 dollars, custom made, and even painted to match my apartment … you can look on local fish forums or even advertise on craigslist for someone to build … a regular particleboard stand for my 30 gallon was 100 dollars at my local fish store and the one i had built is very sturdy and not particleboard and looks great …

Can a guppies sharing a water source breed without physical contact?
Im looking at setting up some breeding lines and want to split bigger tanks into numerous small tanks. For planning purposes, i was wondering if my females and males could be housed in the same large tank and be sexually isolated if they cant physically touch yet essentially share the same water. Im just starting out and dont really know the breeding mechanics for guppies.
Female guppies will not be fertilized until a male guppy has consummated a sexual act with them.
However the males that the females have been growing up with probably have already fertilized them. Female guppies store the sperm from every sexual encounter for about six months which means they can become pregnant about six times without further sexual contact. The most recent "sperm donor" is the father of most of the fry in the next batch, but a percentage of them can be any of the previous males the female has had.
For an example, swordtail livebearers share this reproductive method with guppies. I had two Montezuma swordtail males I could not find mates for. They were getting old so I supplied them with normal green swordtail females. Most of the male offspring from this cross had the enormously long swords of the Montezuma but a few didn’t. So you can still isolate your females, and then expect that most of the fry will be fathered by the male guppy you select. Keep them together and each brood will be more and more the result of your matching.
How many young does a Great White Shark have under normal circumstances?
How long is the gestation period of a Great White Shark?
How many young does a Great White Shark have under normal circumstances?
The gestation period of a great white shark is 14 months. They can produce 2-10 young, possibly 17. Age at Maturity: males 9-10 yrs, females 14-16 yrs. Ovoviviparous which means they lay eggs internally and the young will hatch out into the uterus surviving off the yolk of the egg and then are born. Oophagy- "egg eating" the young eat other eggs or embryos. Breed every other year.
NOTE: Shark young are called pups NOT cubs…
What zoos/aquariums let you touch/hold a penguin?
Are there any zoos or aquariums in the United States that will let you hold or touch a penguin? I love penguins and think it’d be an exciting experience! Any info or links would be great!
Holding/touching a penguin isn’t exactly a piece of cake…as the other answerers said they have nasty beaks and strong flippers which are primarily used to propel them through the water…and I worked with the littlest of the buggers – the little blue penguin or fairy penguin of Australia.
Most birds can be conditioned to be used to humans, like parrots but penguins have never been "domesticated" as such and are basically little wild animals and they CAN and WILL use their natural instincts (usually this involves running away)
Also, from the ones I worked with they are sensitve creatures and aren’t like a dog that can just be patted all day long. The only way you might get up close is if you volunteer or get a job at a marine park =]
what type animals can i keep in 10 ten gallon aquarium tank?
I have an Extra tank and want another pet but not fish so something like a reptile or critter. Preferably one that is easy to care for.
Thanks
A single Crested Gecko or Leopard gecko could live in there. Two female mice or a single dwarf hamster.
Crested Gecko’s live well at room temperature basically.
Leo’s need an under tank heater.
Mice will need at water bottle, and a running wheel.
Same thing with the hamster.
A pacman frog can also probably live in a 10 gallon.
You could also probably do some type of display with poison dart frogs… But I’m not sure about these.
What can you do to prevent a shark attack while snorkeling?
If you see a shark out in the ocean, what can you do to make sure it does not attack you. Imagine shore is a good 100 to 200 yards away.
The average shark has no interest in attacking a person. Only the more aggressive species will do it and often as a mistake. If you notice, most of the shark attacks reported indicate the person was bitten once or twice. If the person dies it is most likely because of the wound after the fact not during the actual attack. There are rarely reports of sharks actually eating people. Therefore the best way to not get attacked is to respect the space of the animal. Make sure you aren’t behaving in a manner that will attract attention (thrashing around wildly like a struggling animal). And do your best not to look like the profile of their favorite food (usually seal).
What is the best saltwater aquarium for a beginner?
I need to know what the best aquarium to get in order to start a saltwater aquarium. I’ve been doing freshwater for the past 6 years and I want to try saltwater. I would like to get an aquarium kit that had everything included if possible. I’ve been looking at the 29 Biocube. I have a space of 30 inches for an aquarium so I can’t get anything that is too big.
when starting a marine aquarium, a lot of people will say that the larger the better, this is an opinion. i mean it can be slightly supported by the fact water fluctuations can occur faster in smaller aquariums rather taking a longer time in larger aquariums, due to more available live rock and water, etc. when one starts a marine aquarium usually its under 55 gallons, in a few months always want to go larger. the thing about bio cubes is that your stuck with their filtration, but its also more convenient that you dont have to buy anything extra aside from media, option protein skimmer, uv sterilizer etc…with bio cubes your usually given bio balls,i would replace this with a media called chemipure elite. chemipure is a "gift" to hobbyist because it does so much in a little bag. since you are restricted in space your pretty much stuck with "nano" aquariums. aquariums usually 30 gallons or under are called nano because they are fairly small. you are also very limited to stocking too. so you should make a list of what you want, than choose the ones that are practical. if your going in a bio cube route, there are many brands similar no one better. jbj, bio cube, red sea and ripp off brands on ebay. also when a beginner enters the hobby they always eventually get into coral its inevitable. so if you do get a bio cube or jbj get the metal halide set up; i think its called HQI______. so do you research first.

What’s the difference between a tiger shark and a great white shark?
My friends & I want to see Soul Surfer so badly. One of them looked up that the attack on the main character was a tiger shark. I thought it was a great white. So therefore, I’d like to know the difference between those two sharks, please.
Great whites are bigger…but I believe tiger sharks are actually more aggressive and will literally take a bite at anything they see in their path…trash and what not.
