Sooo, got some vinegar to clean up some hard calcium deposits & algae on my aquarium equipment. One of the magnets I use to hold the powerheads to the aquarium had its seal momentarily compromised…so now there is water inside the magnet holder. I think it happend because vinegar makes plastic very pliable while its soaking, so I guess that exposed/made a small gap in the seal momentarily It doesn’t appear to be leaking anymore but you can still hear the water swirling around inside of it. And even though it appears to have stopped leaking now, there is still water inside of it swirling around which is rusting the magnet…so yeah, that would be bad if rust leaked into the tank x_x I’m gonna try contacting the company about this problem, but anyways, I could just easily use the now water-filled magnet on the outside of the aquarium, and the “good” magnet on the inside. Hopefully the seal on the other magnet wont break x_x

I’ve decide to grow my own vegies. Problem is I am in a cramped apartment. Well I’ve been reading about hydroponics and how easy it is to setup as a hobby. I use to keep fish and had some old aquariums equipment lying around. With a plastic container and some ingenuity I designed this prototype.Here you can see the water leaving the aquarium pump ad into the tray that will hold gravel and the plant to grow. The aquarium itself will hold goldfish that will provide the nitrogen and other nutrients a la fish poop.

I want to bleach the whisper 40 power filtrating housing (not the filters) I tin put in a new filter. but i want to plumb out the base and tubes and remove the algae and any bacteria. I had a bacteria bloom and my 50 gallon aquarium crahsed on me

I wouldn’t. Chances are that if you failed to rinse your equipment properly, your end result will be far far worse than an algae bloom.There are ways to treat and prevent algae bloom. You should research it.

60 gallon aquarium equipment
in the past few days i got some of the equipment for my 60 gallon aquarium. in this video i show you my ATI sunpower 36 in 8 bulb t5 light fixture with 6 10000k and 1 420 actinic and a 460 actinic. the fans on the light fixture are a little bit too loud for me, im hoping that they quiet down after running for a while. my 2 vortech mp 10 pumps are amazing, they push so much water and are very gentle. at first the pumps were very loud but they quieted down after a few hours. i tried to make a wave with my 2 pumps but i failed i think i need the wireless version so that i can sync them in order to make a wave, but if anyone knows how to make a wave with out wireless pumps that would be awsome if you could help me. if i cant make waves im fine just having the pumps facing eachother at full blast. next is the cpr hob refugium all i can say is it looks sexy lol, very well built except for one thing which is the support that presses against the aquarium glass to keep it level. after finally paying attention in physcis class i noticed that the screw pushing against the glass is so small and the weight of the water in the hob refugium is 5 gallons there will be alot of pressure against the glass in such a small place, so i was worried that over time my aquarium might crack, hopefully not! and my eshopps overflow looks nice. i dont know how well it works yet but ive heard that there is a noise issue but that can be sloved easilly by sticking a peice of tubing down the drain hole …

Hi so I just got a goldfish with one of with a filter and a light and its a hexagon shape anyways thats not the point when looking up cleaning I learned that it needs a siphon hose etc. And i was wondering if their is a way to clean the tank and such without emptying all the water and using equipment?

First, you should NEVER empty all the water. You should never empty more than 50%. If you do, it will kill all the good bacteria that built up while the tank was cycling. This is bad… The bacteria must be present in the tank for life to sustain itself.I don’t glimpse why you think a siphon hose is a fancy piece of equipment. It is not. And they are cheap. The cheapest one costs around $ 5, and its worth it. Its the best and easiest, and really only way to do water changes. Btw, you should be changing 25% of the water once a week.
