Can I use miracle grow as substrate in my planted aquarium tank?

I have a power compact light, homemade Co2 generator and gravel I have been told that I can use miracle grow to help my plants but I am not sure if it would kill my fish. If you would like to make your own Co2 generator go to youtube

Not a good idea. Miracle Grow is made for terrestrial plants, so it has nitrate and phosphate to promote their growth. In an aquarium, these will promote not only plant growth, but algae growth.

There’s already a source for nitrate and phosphate in your tank. It’s your fish and their wastes. So all your plants really need is a source of things like iron and trace minerals. That’s what the aquatic fertilizers contain [check the labels]. And unless you have high lighting [more than 4-5 watts per gallon] or very demanding plants, you probably don’t absolutely need to have a CO2. If you don’t have it regulated correctly, it can kill your fish too. Remember, they need to breathe O2, and CO2 competes with it because water can only hold so much dissolved gasses. And plants only need the CO2 during the day when undergoing photosynthesis.

ADDED I should also mention that Miracle Grow as in the potting soil/garden soil has peat in it if I remember right, and that will lower the pH in the tank, and leach tannins making your water look brown.

Can you put a tropical fish tank / aquarium outside on porch that is covered by one of those canopy things?

I want to put a tank out there to house some sick fish. They are guppies and was told by owner of petstore that they used to breed guppies outside and they put them out there also when sick? The average temperature right now is about 86-95 degrees. It will not be in direct sunlight.

Absolutely NOT!!! Fish are not supposed to be in an environment in temperatures more than 80 degrees. Your fish will fry to death!!! Put them in a shady area INSIDE, where you can enjoy them just as much!!!

I am going to buy a 14 litre aquarium tank and I want to know what plants I should buy?

I’ll be putting three small fish in it.

In a tank that small I would go with plastic plants. But it really would depend on what fish you are planning on getting. The problem with alot of plants is that they will try to take over a tank. Also some fish will uproot plants. You can buy plant bulbs or potted plant. Both seem to be more controlable.

Can a pet frog and a toad live in the same tank/aquarium habitat?

i have a pet frog and toad but can they live together so i don’t have to buy 2 tanks/aquariums?

we have fire bellied toads and tree frogs in the same set up, they both have the same sort of set up and eat the same food so there is not conflict, it makes a good display as the frogs are mainly in the top and the toads are in the bottom so there is always some activity in the tank, they do not fight and as long as there is enough space for the two they live quite happily together, the toads love the water and land so we have a half and half set up (half land /half water) best of luck honey.

what is the best way to cycle a new aquarium using old tank materials?

im upgrading my tank soon to a larger one, i had many problems setting up my new tank (i was naive about the cycle and only listened to what the local aquatic centre told me…bad idea!) …obviously now ive wised up to it. Is it possible to buy a new filter sponge and place it in the old aquarium along with the existing on for a week or so? would this be benificial? would it upset the levels in my old tank? im also going to use the gravel from my old tank and all the plants and ornaments.
i plan to monitor nitrite daily and ill not pus the fish in until it is safe, but i was just looking for any tips or advise that might speed up the process a litttle.
thank you for any help

That’s a very good idea to run the new filter on the old tank for a while. I would run it there for about a week to get a little bacteria going. use all the old material you can, including gravel, heaters etc without letting them dry out. Also use some of the water from the old tank to make moving stuff over to the new one easier. Move as much water as you can, then the gravel and decor, then the filter etc and lastly the fish. No need to wait about moving the fish to the new tank if you have kept the old graveland filter materials wet and not let them sit in a bucket for a day or something.

Sum it up, Use as much old stuff as you can, keep it wet and move quickly. Doing this will basically move the cycle from one tank to the other.

MM

is there a way to connect to wired cages together or a wired cage and a aquarium tank cage?

i doubt u can but can i connect a wire cage with another wire cage (both with plastic bottoms or a wire cage and a tank so i can use both as my hamsters house??? thanks!

You can buy "add ons" which are basically if you own a tank, you can buy another level on top of the tank which is made out of a cage.
Hope I helped!
