You can have up to 20 fish maximum in a 30G tank.

I currently have a five gallon aquarium with two guppies, three zebra danios and an emperor tetra. I am planning on getting a larger aquarium in a few months and would like to keep angelfish in it. I was hoping to keep the fish I currently have with the angels in my new aquarium but I am concerned about my guppies. I talked with my local aquarium store and was told that the guppies would be killed by the angelfish but my danios and emperor tetra would be fine. I am confused on why the guppies would be killed and not the other fish because my guppies, danios and emperor tetra are relatively the same size. I am also wondering if the age of the angels would matter when they are introduced to the guppies. I have seen baby angelfish and guppies kept together but would the angels kill the guppies when they are adults? If anyone knows if guppies are safe being kept with the angelfish please let me know.

We have kept guppies and angel fish together. We start with baby angel fish (small mouths) and guppies, as well as some other types of fish. Haven’t had any problem with the angels eating the guppies. Once the angels got big enough and the guppies bred, the angels would eat the baby guppies if we did not put them in a baby net till they got too big for the angels mouths.

I recently found two of my guppies eating some of an algae wafer I put in my tank for my plecostamus. Is this okay, or will it harm the fish?

No, it won’t harm them, although guppies are primarily carnivorous. So don’t feed them these wafers exclusively.

I just introduced 20 female guppies to my 9 fancy male guppies in order to calm the males down. I’m monitoring the fish in order to make sure they acclimate, and I’ve noticed they’re hanging out at the bottom of the aquarium a lot…just sitting there. I did a water test and my nitrates are high as normal b/c I don’t have any real plants, but other than that the water is fine. They don’t usually sleep on the bottom so I ruled that out. What the heck is wrong? Are they just trying to get their groove on?

I think you said it right, they are grooving on their own. When we had guppies, they were all over, up and down and inbetween. I’ll never own guppies again. Sorry, just too many of ‘em.

I would say 5-6 would be about as many as you would want to put in a ten gallon tank, but keep in mind they will quickly multiply. It might be better to keep a set of two females and one male, because you will have more shortly.

Hiding places are nessasary for keeping fry. As you should know guppies are live bearers and over populate quiker than rats I would start with 5 three females and two males. Always have a ratio with more females than males or the females will over stress and die. You should keep all purpose meds for the older females becuase they are mote likey to have problems becuase of so much breeding. Maake sure you chose your guppies wisley becuase defromites pass on. It doesn’t matter if you have live or fake plants as long as there is some. You may want some bottom feeders such as snails to keep the food in cheak and they will not eat live fry. Keep the tank at 80 degrees. As done general fact fry can breed at 2 And a half monthes old so e care ful with your ratio. Happy gupping

I’ve already asked a question like this before, and I’ve finally chose a molly! Now I’m wondering if a molly will go good with 6 adult guppies, 14 babies, and a Siamese algae eater? The babies are in a fry net, so the molly cannot get at them. But what I’m trying to say is, when one of my guppies gives birth, will the molly consume the babies before I can get them in the fry net? Because my guppies don’t seem to notice their babies. Someone please answer!

That’s all I have in my tank are molly’s and guppies. They are both considered "community" fish – they will be fine together.
As for the babies?? I think it depends on the fish most of the time. I never put my babies in a net and from what I’ve seen no one has ever eaten them. I also have lots of hiding places for them though. I don’t recommend doing that unless you give them plenty of shelter to hide.

i have 11 baby guppies and they are in a 2 1/2 gal tank by themselves with a filter and a heater. they are a week old. i feed them crushed flakes and a little crushed color enhancing flakes and a little hard boild egg yoke for protein. help? any suggestions are welcomed.

First off all, the diet is good for their growth and their color, so they may get color a tad sooner. Usually I will start to see color at a month old, but they won’t have full color until 3 months. The color that you see at one month may change a little, so don’t get too excited or disappointed. JK Good luck.

I’m going on vacation for 4 days. What should I do about the baby guppies? There are four one week old babies and 5 seven week old babies. Would the 1 week old guppies be able to eat the food that comes from one of those vacation feeding blocks? I can’t leave them with anyone because it would stress them out to move them. Thank you!

I doubt they would be able to eat of one of the feeding blocks. Try to remember that fish are used to not eating everyday in the wild so a few days will not hurt them. Being so young though i would just feed them well right befor leaving and they should be fine. I had a batch of fry born 10 mins befor i left for 4 days and they were all ok when i got back.
