List of fish to keep in a saltwater aquarium and also breed.?

I am a newbie at fish care but I want to breed and sell fish. I’m planning to get an
aquarium and fill it with saltwater, since I’ve heard those are easier to care for. So
what kinds of fish can I find at my local fish store that can be kept in a saltwater
aquarium?

salt water aquariums are alot harder to maintain and more expenceive. take a look at this http://www.aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk/marine-fish/ ( if you click on one it comes up with alot more.)

i would recommend starting with a tropical tank and breeding angle fish as it is quite easy, cheap, enjoyable , watch this if you want to breed tropical freshwater angelfish. http://www.youtube.com/user/ViralSkills?feature=mhee#p/f/8/BBF4CfUCVpY

if you really want to breed saltwater fish then i would go with clownish as if you buy two one will become male the other femail and they will lay eggs which they will care for themselves.

but i really do recommend you go with the fresh water one.

hope i helped

When preparing a saltwater aquarium, should I use sea salt from the grocery store or aquarium sea salt?

I have sea salt purchased from the grocery store and am preparing a saltwater aquarium. Should I purchase specialized sea salt or is the grocery-store sea salt fine for the fish?

You should buy a marine salt mix—not aquarium salt, not grocery store sea salt, but marine salt like Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals (these are brands).

Marine salt mixes contain calcium, magnesium, and other trace elements that create water that matches a true marine environment. Since plain ol’ sodium chloride by itself is pH neutral and contains no buffers, it’s not suitable for a marine fish tank.

You should thoroughly research everything that your aquarium needs before setting it up. Mistakes in the saltwater hobby can be quite costly.

When can I start to add fish to my new saltwater aquarium?

I am really anxious to get fish into my new 29 gallon saltwater aquarium. I just got it set up yesterday. I have aragonite sand at the bottom, 5-6 live rock pieces, 2 fans or whatever they’re called to circulate water, 2 filters, 1 heater. And a bubbler. I was reading that I should start out with Damsels. How soon can I add some Damsels to my new tank?

It depends on what you are doing to cycle your tank. I would wait at least a month to add fish to the tank. If you bring a sample to your local pet store, they will usually test your water free of charge and let you know if it is safe to add fish yet. If you are planning to keep fish, it is probably best for you to buy your own test kit, and the pet store should be able to show you how to use it, if you are new to the hobby.

You can also buy Biospira for your tank. If you add that, it will speed up the cycle, but it is pretty expensive. Adding this will still not make your tank instantly ready for fish.

What is needed to keep a saltwater aquarium ?

I’m setting up a ten gallon saltwater aquarium. What do I need to do to make sure it’s successful. What levels do the nitrates,ph,alkalinity.hardness and so on need to be at. I would like to be able to keep corals and fish alive.

Sorry I would type it up but it takes too long so i will send you the site :) http://www.melevsreef.com/overview.htm

Can I make a saltwater aquarium using a tank that used to house goldfish?

I am aware that goldfish produce ammonia which is why you cannot have other freshwater fish in the same tank and I know that glass is a porous material which is why you cannot use a tank that previously housed reptiles.
Sooo is there a problem with using a tank that housed goldfish for years to make a saltwater aquarium?

You have some bad information.

1) All fish produce ammonia

2) Glass is not very porous and would not absorb and leak ammonia back into the tank

3) The only issue on reptile tanks is that some are specifically made for reptiles and the glass is not thick enough for an aquatic aquarium. Most are usable either way. If the aquarium is safe to hold water, it doesn’t matter what you had in it before (you might wat to check the silicone though as some lizards and rodents will have worn it down and cause it to leak if not resealed)

So, there is no problem using a tank that was used for goldfish and converting it to saltwater.

BUT saltwater is hard and you cannot believe everything you hear (sounds like you already have a wealth of bad advice) get a book and research before spending a lot of money. Check out your local library, or check out Amazon for beginner saltwater aquarium books. Published advice goes through peer review and is usually more accurate than word of mouth or the internet.

Can I run a saltwater aquarium with no rocks or decorations?

Simply have sand and fish in it, no places to hide, or just plastic props? I don’t have the money for live rocks just yet but I want a saltwater aquarium ^_^ will want to add corals later on.

Is this equipment enough for JUST fish for now? :
Aquarium, Fluval Canister Filter, Sand, Heater, Light
If I put props to hide behind, is that good enough?

I have a large freshwater aquarium, just tired of it.

You can, just be sure that you get fish that don’t so much require live rock. If you have any hope of keeping coral, you will need live rock as well is good lighting. Metal halides on my 36 gallon were cheap at $400. I have a cheaper lighting on my 20 Long which is a cheap t5 HO that cost me about $160. If you have a large tank, it can cost much more.

What do I need for a 75 gallon fish only saltwater aquarium?

I want to get a 75 gallon saltwater aquarium with fish only, no live rock or sand, no reefs nothing, just fish. Would I need a protein skimmer? Powerhead? Air Pump? Air stones? I plan on gettting a power filter that is high quality. I’m just not sure about skimmer and pumps and powerhead.

Without live rock, expect a lot of water changes, and a skimmer is your best friend as far as filtration! Do not skimp on the skimmer; get one rated higher than your tank size. Expect to sink a few hundred on a decent skimmer. Without the live rock, stocking numbers will be less as well.

You can do air stones if you like, but they are never necessary and look cheesy in a marine tank in my opinion.

Also, the fish won’t want to feel exposed, so you will need some sort of cover, even just fake plants.

How hard is it to keep up with a saltwater fish tank aquarium?

I have been thinking about getting a saltwater aquarium for a while, how often do you have to clean it?how big does the tank have to be? Any additional information would be great, Thanks!!!!

saltwater is a harder type to keep then a Fresh water tank. If you are a beginner I would suggest getting a 30-55 gal tank. the bigger the tank the easier the water and chemicals are to maintain.

What Saltwater aquarium fish have soft bellies?

I am looking for a substrate for my saltwater aquarium. Some say they are burrower safe, soft belly safe and/or sifter safe. I haven’t bought the fish yet but am curious what type of saltwater aquarium fish have soft bellies so I know more about what substrate to buy. I plan on having goby which I know are sifters and jawfish which are burrowers.

basically when a substrate advertises its safe for burrowing, and soft bellies means it very fine in size. fish that generally require this particular type of substrate would be gobies, jawfishes, blennies, dragonets, scorpions, frogfishes, rays and some sharks. you should always go with the finer substrate as there is less of a gap for left over foods and other wastes to build up and create unnecessary nitrites and nitrates. also this substrate will affect snails, crabs, corals, anemones and sea stars. so definitely go with the most fine substrate such as sand…live sand preferably.
