Can i put convict cichlids with albino zebra cichlids?
February 27th, 2010 | by admin |I have a 50 gallon tank with 3 small 1-3 inch albino zebra cichlids, a pleco, 2 tiger barbs, and a catfish. Can i put the convicts in with them? Any of the fish except for the cichlids can be removed so please tell me and please answer thanx a lot!
its usually better if you don’t mix south american cichlids with the Mbuna of lake malawi( rock dwelling herbivors). There are much cooler fish that convicts that come from the same environment as your zebras. they have differing water chemistry requirments and differing feeding requirments…and if you zebras were to breed which is likely when they are adults..the convicts could eat them…they would probably get along, but sometimes the africans can be prety beligerant to south americans.

convict cichlids can be pretty aggressive. most get around 5 inches in length, so they probably pick on the smaller zebra cichlids.

Um if you want an all out brawl, I’m not against mixing Africans with Americans but if your gonna have the space to do so.Zebras are extremely aggression, perhaps even more so than your convicts, and convicts are prolific breedings and are extremely aggressive when guarding a nest and they are always guarding a nest.If you wanted a few fish than convict is a bad beginner,it does not appreciate anythings company. My advice is to perhaps trade the convicts in and create a whole mbuna tank.Mbuna prefer a fully to overstocked tank and will do very well with zebras as zebras are mbuna also.
