How many african cichlids could I keep in a 10 gallon tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank with 5 tiger barbs and 5 rosy barbs, how many African Cichlids could I keep? Would it be okay for one to be by itself, or are they happier with other African Cichlids?

You have no more room for anything in your tank. Also, cichlids are generally better off in a cichlid only tank as they only come from very specific lakes. Africans are from Lake Tanganyika or Lake Victoria I believe. They prefer a higher pH than most other fish and have different nitrate preferences. Also, there a many different species that will need vastly different sized tanks as cichlids vary in size.
