No i don’t think a fire-mouth would be good. They are quite aggressive. Why not try other cichlid like the Keyhole cichlid. Its a very beautiful cichlid which is quite mild mannered.
Or try other like the Bolivian Ram or German Blue Rams.
Or better try the Rainbow Cichlid…
but it would be better if you buy dwarfs than cichlids that grow too big

A firemouth actually can work out very well, but what should be said for a GOOD answer is, what is your tank size? Forget what the norm is for typical tanks people keep, there is no statistical data to show that typical home keepers only use say a 20 gallon tank or 30 or 40, so with that in mind, is this to suggest you can’t keep your stock with a firemouth in a 200 gallon tank? I’d like to see any cichlid forum tell you no this can’t work out and be a good forum.

Granted not a great amount of practical keepers I have seen have rather large tanks, but that supports my main point is that to name anything to answer your question, you need to list the tank size first. An overview of your water chemistry make up as well would be helpful. There are a few South and Central American types which could possibly work, but the sizes these groups tend to get, make it important to know how much space you have to work with.
