What other cichlids are good for this tank?

March 1st, 2010 | by admin |

I currently have 4 african cichlids, 2 red zebra, 1 yellow lab, and 1 acei i also have a rainbow shark they are in a 60 gal tank with lots of caves and hiding places and i was wondering what other cichlids can i add? Or it’s not a good idea to add more?

If you have zebra’s then you need to stick with the type cichlids you have so get more mbuna’s, 2 F to 1 male but there are several types of mbuna’s you can have. They are very aggressive and the more you have the less aggression spread to the remaining ones. You could also have an armored catfish like the featherfins but mbunas can kill others. Not sure how that Lab will fair in that tank but he may be OK and if so then you should have more of them so he has some of his own species.

You’re going to need a lot of rock if you have africans and it’s a good idea to have egg crate under the gravel to help with the weight of the rock on your glass bottom.

It may or may not be a good idea. African cichlids can get 1in or they can get 12in… so it depends on the breed/breeds that you have. The rule of thumb that I have always heard is 1 gallon of water per 1in of FULL GROWN fish. Add the species that you have and someone could probably help you.
