How many Discus can I get for a 55 gallon tank? I don’t want to overcrowd it.?

The tank is well established. I am prepared change the water once a week. Also what do you think of mail order Discus. They have much prettier ones than I have seen locally. Thank You

The narrow depth of the 55 makes it a pretty confined discus tank. The 75 gallon is a much better size to give them adequate room and allow for proper decorating too, and then you can do a group of 6, as long as you are diligent in your maintenance routine.

Discus do best and look best in groups, in the 55 gallon it’s pushing it and a pair is better. you need to establish yourself a mating pair and just ’2′ isn’t the same as ‘a pair’. . Going midway with a very small group of 3 or 4 of them tends to increase aggression issues and I don’t recommend it.

you can have up to 2 full grown discus in a 55 with out them feeling cramped. if you plan on upgrading to a larger tank down the line you can have 4 young ones easily

I’d say 2 if you want them to be stress free, but maybe 3
