Question by Mary: How long does it take for ammonia burn to heal on a goldfish?
I think my fish had ammonia burn. It has black spots on it, which I think means that it is healing from ammonia burn. I did a water change. The ammonia is now 0 ppm, nitrite 0 ppm, and the ph is about 7.6. I also have the Carbonate Hardness adn General Hardness test solution, but I lost the coloring cards that tell you what the color means. Would either of these test affect the process of the healing ammonia burns? If they do, could some one delight give me a site that has the coloring cards for the KH and GH testing solution? I use the Master Test Kit by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. Is there anything else I can do besides water changes that will speed up healing ammonia burn?

I had it once with a torpedo barb, he jumped in the tank right away and got red blotches everywhere..yipesI though he was a goner.I used a melifix/pimafix combo (6 day dose) I think it’s the melafix that heals or helps wounds but i always combo the 2 if I use them.Kept the tank lights off for 2 days (just so he wouldn’t be nervous) so thats up to you and in about 10 days he was fine.If you give him a stress free enviroment he will heal quite swiftly.good luck!!!

Question by : Is 30watts of Fluorescent Lighting(Ten Gallon Aquarium) to High For Water Wisteria?
I’m just a little worried I have to much lighting, any helpful advice and tips would be appreciated. Also, the gravel I’m using is from a bag labeled, ‘Eco-Complete Planted Aquarium Substrate’, I’m using a 20lb bag for my ten gallon aquarium also.Last question, what would be a good carpet plant for a 30w, ten gallon aquarium?I have the PH lvl at 6.8 right now.

Question by : Help with new aquarium decoration.?
Yesterday for Christmas I got a big Chinese Buddha statue for my fish tank. My tank is 26 gallons and I have about 10 guppies and about 4 other fish in there. Right now, I only have alot of fake plants and a small little sphinx decoration in there. I want to put in the Buddah this morning, but I want to make sure I do it right. I’m going to take out the sphinx decoration by the way.So my question is, how do I put in this very large decoration with stressing out my fish too much, and how should I go about cleaning it before I put it in the tank?Thank you everyone for all the answers!

clean it with hot water. don’t use any chemicals. I would put it in there on your next full cleaning. Make sure it’s in there before you add the fish in again. if you stick it in while the fish are there, they might be scared and stay away from it. just my opinion.

I desire to made custom shaped acrylic aquariums. I assume’t want to use preformed acrylic plat. I desire to construct it, pour it on my own. In most of the forums, cell cast liquid plexi/acrylic is advised. Where tin i find those substances in İstanbul Turkey ? Are there any online tutorials about the craft ? Mold making, pouring tips… Are there any substances needed such as hardener, catalyst.. ? What are the brands ? Where to find in İstanbul ? May substances used in acrylic casting art the used also in aquarium glass building ? EnviroTex,Weld-On ?

When you’re talking about “casting” with resin, you’re generally talking about a *polyester* resin, not an epoxy resin like Envirotex. Polyester resins are used for “casting” and as an adhesive and hardener between layers of fiberglass cloth.(I’ve never understood if the “liquid acrylic” referred to by some is any different than just polyester resin though… I do know that any resins besides polyester or epoxy are even more dangerous to use.)Both polyester and epoxy resins come as two parts, but for the polyesters there will be one large bottle and one small bottle (the catalyst), whereas for the epoxies there will be two bottles of the same surfaced (they’re mixed one to one).You can find polyester resins in various places… in art supply stores, craft or hobby stores, as well as in places where one might want to deal with fiberglass (some automotive stores, some boat stores), and of course online. Check out some of the links in this Google search: http://www.google.com/search?q=polyester+resin+cast+mold+how+toAnd also notice that the link that’s about # 10 in that list goes to a few Googlegroups (Usenet groups) that deal with that sort of thing, so you could ask in one of those groups –they’d either know, or be able to direct you to a better group or to various websites with lessons, etc.HTH,Diane B.

Question by : using silicone to glue an acrylic fish tank togather?
I just got some acrylic glass and was using aquarium silicone to glue all the sides on. i have used silicone to glue a 1 gallon tank together but never an all glass 8 gallon tank. i already put all the pieces together using silicone but i don’t know if it will hold. should i have used something else? it stands almost by its self after 3 hours of drying. should i put acrylic cement OVER the silicone? What should i have used and wat should i do.

Question by Mister J: LED light in aquarium stressful?
I recently purchased a filter that is inbuilt with LED lights (coloured blue, crimson and green). The manual claims that it simulates moonlight and reduces stress levels for fishes. The thing about the lights is that, there is no off-button. They are on so long as the filtrated is plugged in. So my question is, will this LED lighting stress out the fishes?Due to the LED being in-built with the filter, the lightly will probably be on 24/7 as I think to keep my filter running.

No. Fish see lights at most depths of water, so there’s no harm.
