How many guppies can i keep in a 28 Litre tank? And many should i add at a time to grow the biological filter.

28 liters is between 7-8 U.S. gallons…
1 inch per gallon means 3-4 guppies should be o.k…

Only problem is if there are male and females there… They will breed often… Those that survive will also begin breeding soon also…

It will not take long before the tank is over crowded…

Just a few thoughts to be aware of…
1. If you buy females only, they may already be pregnant from the pet store…
2. If you buy males only, buy at least 4 to lower aggression…

2 or 3 males will possibly fight… at least with 4 the "aggression" will be split more evenly…

As far as the above post mentioning that they should be kept in pairs and that they "form pairs for life", my males would mate with all the females readily… They are peaceful community fish, but I do not believe them to be "monogomus (sp?)"…

16 guppies may be o.k. for a 28 gallon tank, but not 28 liters…

Other posts (see link below in source(s)) show that more may be acceptable… But it mentions no more than 1 guppy per U.S. gallon… That would be 7-8 for you… Assuming that you have good filtration…

3. If you do have males and females have a plan for the fry (babies)…
4. 4 adult guppies would be considered a "stocked" tank at this size…

I am not sure of your total stock level in a tank of this size but you have to have at least 2 females to 1 male otherwise males can be aggressive. So i would say its probably best to start with 3.They also like a well planted tank.

No more than 16 guppies. But, they should always be kept in groups of 2. Guppies form pairs for life and should always be allowed to do so.
