I am getting a ten gallon with a filter, heater, etc, and I wanted to know how many I could put in there. There will be no other fish, just guppies.
If I got males and females and they had fry, what would I do with the fry? Would I leave them in there? Would it get to crowded?
I would say you can get 10-12 MAXIMUM all males. Or you can get a few females but no more than 6 because they are usually pregnant. They have fry every 20-28 days. You can tell they are pregnant by the dark red or black gravid spot near the anal fin. I haven’t seen a non-pregnant guppy. Unless they were separated from the males at birth.
If you plan on breeding them I suggest that you get a trio. 1 male and 2 females. Remember to have more females than males at the ratio 1male: 2 female or 1 male: 3 female. Or else of there are and even or more amount of males they will harass the females to death.
Also, be careful, guppies breed like crazy. So if you decide to mix up the males and females together then you will most probably end up with an overcrowded 10 gallon tank by the end of a month or two. New females have anywhere from 2 to 20 fry and older ones can have up to 100s of fry. Just giving some extra advice.
Good luck
Six will be enough.

I would go for 6(Either all males, or 2 males, 4 females.)

you can put alot more than 6 in there
but if you do
you should get a filter that takes the immona out of the water

6-10, depending on how well-established your tank is and how powerful your filter is.

I would suggest 6-10 male guppies. Don’t get any females. You will have a population explosion of mini guppies. Instead, why don’t you get a trio of corydoras plus 4 or 5 guppies. They are really active and interesting fish.

I would get 5 females and 2 males so when they have babies they will take over the male position. And you should get another 10G and 10G so you can separate the males and females when their 4 weeks old. And get 2 1 gallon tanks with foam filters. for the new born and the mom. Good luck! And you should know that when you buy a female guppy from a pet store they are already pregnant. I breed guppy to so it will be very fun.

If you plan to breed them, then this is what you should do:
Get two females and two males. Make sure that you have a lot of plants scattered around the tank, because the males tend to harass the females, and the females will be able to hide this way, until they are ready to mate.
If you don’t want to mate them, then only get males, or only get females. If you breeded them and they had fry, then you could always give the fry to your local pet store. And if your lucky, they’ll pay you for them, but most don’t.

And good luck!

6-10 guppies but make sure you have if u get males and feamles that u have a 2:1 ratio. Like 2 females for every male or else ur females could get over stressed from the male and could kill her. Now if your guppies do have fry….you HAVE to take them outta the tank becuase the mom and other guppies WILL eat them thats if u want to keep them. They can have up to 100 babies(more likely to have around 10-40 though) and are livebearers(meaning they give birth to live fry no eggs) You can buy a breeding trap to put the mom in when she is about to drop. They do have fry every month too. i would suggest you only select a few fry to take out and let the others die for you will get over popualted very quickly.( i useually just wait for the mom to pop the babies out with all the fish in the tank with her so they do get eaten usually 1 or 2 will survive i then procede to capture them which is really hard to do…and put them in their own seperate 1 gallon tank.)

have guppies for a while and do breed them
