Is it okay for guppies and other fish to snack on algae wafers?

I recently found two of my guppies eating some of an algae wafer I put in my tank for my plecostamus. Is this okay, or will it harm the fish?

No, it won’t harm them, although guppies are primarily carnivorous. So don’t feed them these wafers exclusively.

Mine also do this. It is fine. But there many diet can’t be algae wafers! They can nibble on them every now and then, though.

It’s fine. Guppies (and really most tropical fish including your pleco) are omnivores, meaning they would normally eat both plant and animal matter. See the diet information in this link for any other fish you might keep: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pcatid=830

Depending on which brand of algae wafers you use, you may find fish meal is one of the ingredients so the plecos get more than just algae (and they also LOVE shrimp pellets!).
