Is there a way to slow down water coming from an aquarium filter?

Question by weebleswobble: Is there a way to slow down water coming from an aquarium filter?
I have a turtle tank, with one of those filters that hangs away the back and the supply, you know? Well I noticed that when the turtle swims underneath that flow of water that is being spilled back into the tank from the filter, he has a rough time as it forces him to the bottom. Is there any way to divert the water coming back into the tank so that the pull isn’t as strong, or to slow down that flow? Thanks.

Well I noticed with all filters there should be a lever on the back, side or top of the filtrating. If not try putting a piece of sponge in look of the filter. Make sure it’s not over working the filter if this works, also make sure it doesn’t slip into the tank the turtle might eat it.

Q&A: What’s the best life support system for a small aquarium?

Question by Jonathan M: What’s the best life support system for a small aquarium?
I’m building a small acrylic aquarium (about 16 gallons). I want the aquarium to be as maintenance-free as is practical. What’s the best, most dependable, low-profile, automatic filtering system I tin get for this tank? Does there exist a filter unit that also integrates the water heater and aerator?(freshwater)

Best answer:

Answer by Cholly
All filtrating aerate by causing surface agitation. You don’t need visible bubbles.I believe Rena makes a Hang-On-Back(HOB) filter that integrates a heater. I’m pretty sure that PetSmart carries them.

What and how often do I have to change the filters on my fish aquarium filter?

Question by ktrio730: What and how often do I have to change the filters on my fish aquarium filter?
I am purchasing the Marineworld Penguin BIO-Wheel Power Filter for a 30 gallon fish tank. I was wondering if I have to change the filter AND the bio-wheel seperately, and also how often I should change each one. Thanks.

Answer by Andrew
About every 3-4 weeks because it gets filled with a whole lot of gunk by then and pretty much useless you shouldn’t reuse any pads or wheels unless it says reusable

Why is there a film at the top of my aquarium water?

aquarium decoration
by dimsis

Question by Lani: Why is there a film at the top of my aquarium water?
I’ve been noticing a film at the top of my aquarium irrigated. It happened shortly after I added a new aquarium decoration, I washed the decoration before I put it in the irrigated. I tried skimming the film out of the water with a cup but I couldn’t get all of it. My Betta Fish is acting a little sluggish so I’m kind of worry. Please help!Should I concerned? How tin I make the film at the top of my aquarium water go away?

Best answer:

Answer by Renee
I have had my betta fist for around 2 years now. It seems that about once a month or so a thick film develops on the top of the water. You might notice that the film has tiny little bubbles in it. If you had a female betta she would lay her eggs in the bubbles. Unless you start to see tiny white spots on your fish (ick) or some other kind of abnormal label I wouldn’t worry too much. If the film grosses you out, you can just change out about half of the irrigate and that will take care of it for a while.

Can the cord of an aquarium filter really go into the water and still be safe?

Question by gotanswers: Can the cord of an aquarium filter really go into the water and still be safe?
I bought this filter for my son’s turtle tank and it appears that the cord can, and is supposed to be completely submerge into the water. Is this safe? It equitable seems dangerous to me.

It’s insulated wire…lag the directions, and pay attention to how to make the ‘drip loop’.
