How much would it cost to set up a 15 gallon saltwater aquarium?

Hi,

I am an experienced aquarist, but I have never owned a saltwater aquarium before, how much (in english pounds) would it cost to set up the tank?

I am looking to buy one in the near future

Thanks!

Depends if you want a fish only with live rock tank or a reef tank. Lighting is probably going to be your biggest expense, equipment wise.
Figure about $200 for a light. then you need the tank if you don’t have that one already. Filter, protein skimmer, powerhead, salt, proper testing supplies (Ph, Ammonia, nitrate/ites, hydrometer…) chemicals…

you also have to buy sand, rock, fish, inverts. So figure at least $500 easy. about 330 pounds

heres a link for required supplies for a 10 gallon, its close to what you need.

my 20 gal which went low tech cost about 150$ for the LR, 40$ for the sand (i got the expensive live sand it might be 20 for the reg. stuff), 20$ for my CUC, 30$ for my clownfish, and so far 100$ on my corals, 20$ for the lighting for the coral, and i had my filter heater tank already before but that was 50$. with a 15 gal id recomend either a pair of clownfish or 2 small fish like a firefish or something along those lines

icant do the conversion but it totale to 220$ with out the coral and lights (youll no doubt want some though)

high tech is with the protein skimmer, sump, fuge, phosphate reactor and what-not, this can jack up the price significantly so if i were you d go big, it actually saves money for this part of the hobby

about 120 bucks ( 56 pounds) but I recommend a 29 gallon only 3 pounds more and quite easier dont forget about percula clownfish! for it
