I hope you have a large aquarium. From your description, I'd guess you have either a bala or an iridescent shark. From your description, I’d guess you have either a bala or an iridescent shark.

Well from the sound of you have yourself a big old black shark, that is really the name of it. Make sure you have a tank big enough for him, because he is gonna get big. From what you have said, I can say that if you've had it a while and you haven't seen it much you may have a nocturnal creature on your hands if you want to see it eat I would try feeding late in the day(maybe about half an hour before you turn off your aquarium light) and see if it comes out to eat. If that does the trick you defiantly do and you can go from there.
