Unsure about quality of rectanglular acrylic tank?

Question by quirkylennings: Unsure about quality of rectanglular acrylic tank?
I believe the brand is “All Glass Aquariums”. It is rectangular in shape, and acrylic, it is made with flat panes and seems to be put together with some sort of hard glue in the corners. Because of this glue, I am unsure about the quality of this tank. To anyone who may have had (or does have) this type of tank, is it reliable? Are there any set backs to this type of tank? Thank you in advance.

I would NOT buy an acrylic tank with siliconed panes… One of the biggest appeals of an acrylic tank is the seamless corners. Also, silicone doesn’t bond well to acrylic like to does to glaze. I would crack, but do make sure it is an acrylic tank rather than glass… I don’t believe All GLASS makes acrylic tanks.Silicone in a glass aquarium: http://www.jonolavsakvarium.com/eng_diy/tankbuilding2006/th_glass02.jpgEDIT: I stand corrected. All Glass makes an acrylic kit, but it is very small (about 2.5 gallons). However, it is seamless, meaning it’s just one patched of acrylic bent into the sides, and a second for the bottom.

Will my aquarium light penetrate through acrylic glass?

Question by Jeff G: Will my aquarium light penetrate through acrylic glass?
The cover for my aquarium is a sheet of acrylic glass (a.k.a. plexi glass). I’m just going to place my light-colored right on top of the glass. Will that absorb too much of the light my live set need or will it be alright?

Best answer:

Answer by Tommy
It will get hotter than usual and the plants will absorb as much as they need but don’t leave light on more than 12 hours a day

Q&A: My acrylic aquarium has started to crack…what’s going on?

Question by Lost OC Boy: My acrylic aquarium has started to crack…what’s going on?
I recently switched to a larger aquarium and let me old 12 gallon aquarium sit bailed. I kept it away from sunlight. I noticed there are several lines running through the acrylic now that look like cracks. If you rub your fingers across them, you can feel them on one side of the acrylic but not the other. Why did they suddenly appear when the aquarium was bail? I think the aquarium is about 5 years old.

Question by Trecey K: Do they cut glass or acrylic for aquarium DIY at Home depot?
I desire to add partitions to my tank tomorrow, but the glass binned is closed, haha. Does Home Depot do it?

Best answer:

Answer by cowboydoc
Home depot has some good acrylic for tanks but, you’d have to know what you desire, they don’t specialize. For a partition it would be O.K. as long as there isn’t any force behind it, just make sure of the measurements.
