Question by Mister J: LED light in aquarium stressful?
I recently purchased a filter that is inbuilt with LED lights (coloured blue, crimson and green). The manual claims that it simulates moonlight and reduces stress levels for fishes. The thing about the lights is that, there is no off-button. They are on so long as the filtrated is plugged in. So my question is, will this LED lighting stress out the fishes?Due to the LED being in-built with the filter, the lightly will probably be on 24/7 as I think to keep my filter running.

No. Fish see lights at most depths of water, so there’s no harm.

Yes, not only because it mimics the sun and darkness that we are all accustomed to, but UV rays emitted by aquarium lights provide important vitamins – just like we receive a lot of vitamin D from standing in the sun.

Question by Noir: Cloudy water after aquarium filter installation?
I bought a penn plax small aquarium filter yesterday it was working fine, today the water is slightly cloudy. I made sure to run it under water for a few minutes before I placed it in the tax. (It is a filter made of sponge and carbon.) Any ideas on what could be wrong?

its fine it sometimes does that from the extra dust it should go away, i use to wash it only a bit to get some out before i put it in my tank

Hi there, I recently had a disease in my 4ft tank. I want to use the heater in another tank, but obviously do not desire to cross-fouling. Just wondering what is dependable to clean it with so the disease does not spread. I’ve heard you can use a vinegar solution?Cheers

Let it sit in boiled water at a high temperature but not high enough were it will break the heater that will kill anything that was in it and after that you could let it sit in saltwater if it were in a freshwater tank and the disease could not survive in saltwater.

This was a fun little project. The cats conceived I built it just for them – they drink from it and perch on the edge to watch the goldfish swim around. I got the whiskey barrel half from a local nursery, and found the brass "bird" faucet on eBay. There’s a pump running into it so that a steady trickle of water dribbles from the faucet. My dad dug up the water lilly for me from one of his ponds back home in Texas, and my mom packaged it up and sent it to me. The aquarium heater kept it from freezing during the winter, which the cats (and probably the goldfish) appreciated.

that’s just a standard incandescent light….just go to walmart or any petstore will have them…there is not any special kind just the needs to be the right size… they also sell CFL lights that will fit and last about 3-5 years use less power and put out way more light…http://reviews.petco.com/3554/100305/reviews.htm
