Q&A: Best aquarium in NYC area?

Question by M P: Best aquarium in NYC area?
Looking to bring my 4 year old daughter to the aquarium for her birthday. We live in North Jersey. I have narrowed it down to the NY Aquarium at Coney Island or Adventure Aquarium in Camden NJ. Does anyone have experience with both or either of these places and an opinion on which is best (especially for a 4 year old). Thanks.

I haven’t been to the one in Camden, but we took our sons many times to the Coney Island Aquarium. It’s rattling nice, and afterwards you can walk along the boardwalk there, which is a fun thing to do as well.

The better question will be what size is your tank??? If you have a small 10g, go with C, if your tank is about 60g, go with A, but if you have a huge tank definately go with B!

Best Aquarium Moving Bed Filter Ever!!

New design based on the original moving bed filter. It still uses a bottle to house the K1 but also uses 20mm pipe, foam and heater clips/suckers to ensure that the water will be mechanically filtered (foam) as well as biologically filtered (moving K1 media). This will be perfect for breeding tanks as fry can feed from the foam and the K1 can cope with a high feeding regime – all run from a small air pump! This should be the only filter you will need in an aquarium and since you should have an air pump anyway, the running costs of a traditional internal filter can be taken out of the electricity costing. Perfect for a fish house with multiple tanks, instead of having either a sponge filter or internal filter, a combined moving bed filter can be installed in each tank to totally filter the water – all run by one air pump. Happy days!! To buy the media (I ship Worldwide) and make your own filter, please follow this link: shop.ebay.co.uk

What is the best camera for taking pictures of aquarium fish and decent for just normal pictures?

I am looking for a digital camera and my main uses will be for aquarium fish. I also want one thats good for normal use such as landscapes, family gatherings…etc etcis there a camera that has both???and prefferably no more than 500 dollars. maybe more is ok. as long as its not to much over.uhm…home aquarium mainly. maybe a public one.

Answer by Terisu
Do you mean a home aquarium, or a public aquarium? The answer would be a little different for each. A public aquarium is usually dimly lit, so you will need a camera that can handle dim light. You can use a wider aperture, or set your ISO higher to handle it.Either way, you would not want to use a flash, so you need a camera that gives you the option to turn it off. Flash will just reflect off the glass and give you a huge glare spot. Not a pretty picture!Find a camera with a “fast lens”. That means a wide aperture (small f number). A SLR would be an excellent choice, but not at your price range. The cheaper cameras won’t be adjustable enough, so go for the best you can afford. Look for a larger lens than those teeny things on cheapo cameras (and cell phones). Look for a camera with aperture priority mode if possible. Some scene modes might also be helpful, like macro or portrait, as long as you can switch off the flash for them.Find a good camera store, tell them your needs and your budget, and see what they suggest. Good luck!Oh yes, I forgot the second part of your question. A camera that’s good enough to shoot aquariums of either sort will work great for landscapes, family gatherings, and most other things as well.

Q&A: What is the best freshwater aquarium filter?

Question by Rosewood: What is the best freshwater aquarium filter?
I just bought a 75 gallon aquarium to house my three cichlids. I have a convict, blood parrot, and a convict/blood parrot that are currently living in a 20 gallon. I was just wondering what filter would be the best for me to use. I will probably get either a power filter or a canister filter. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to buy an expensive filter just to find out that it doesn’t do a good job. Thanks for any advice.

Answer by FishExpert
For power filtrate I’d get two AquaClear 110′s.For canister I’d get a Rena XP3 or 4.

What is the best lighting for my aquarium?

Question by pjm: What is the best lighting for my aquarium?
I have a 29 gallon aquarium that takes a 24” T8 flourescent light. I’m not sure what any of the aquarium lighting vocabulary means like “kelvin”, “T8″, and like “WPG” because I am new to planted tanks. I was just wondering if anybody can suggest a specific brand and type of light I can use in my tank. I would really like something that could be considered “high light”. Thanks

The typewriting and intensity of lighting in an aquarium affects health, stress, coloration, photosynthesis, and stimulates reproduction, among other things. Some aquarium organisms come from shaded regions, like rain forest rivers, where most of the light in their day is indirect. These organisms do not require intense day lighting and some levelled fare poorly if subjected to it (e.g. mushroom anemones). These types of organisms may not need a full 12 hours of daylight. Then there are high illume organisms. These guys tend to come from shallow tropical areas where water clarity is sublimated and they are bathed with intense, full spectrum lighting from the sun for 12 hours a day. These organisms have adapted to these conditions and some do not equitable thriving best under intense lighting, but require it to live (e.g. Tridacna Clams). Most coral reefs grow in shallow waters wish this. Aquatic plants need intense lighting as well.”Actinic light” is important to reef organisms and deep irrigate fishes. Actinic lights produce UV wavelengths at the blue end of the daylight spectrum, which penetrates water the farthest and is most easily absorbed by corals and invertebrates. It is crucial to corals that rely on symbiotic algae (Zooxanthellae) that use UV light for photosynthesis. Actinic lights are not identical intense and appear blue, so actinic fixtures also include daylight spectrum lighting.
