Q&A: Where is the best place online to buy Acrylic to build aquariums?

Question by Kevin S: Where is the best place online to buy Acrylic to build aquariums?
I am wanting to get into building selfsame small nano / pico aquariums (2 gallons and under) and I am trying to find a nice place online to purchase acrylic from. I may do the occasional 10 or 20 gallon tank and need a place that has an option to purchase larger sizes. I would really like a place that I could order a piece of acrylic from and have them cut the sizes I need for free so I only have to assemble it. I have found a few plastics mfg’s online but most seem to charge way too much for the acrylic, and extra for cutting. Does anyone know of a really dependable place online that will sell any size big or small and cut for free at the best prices ?? Someone help me away here.

I was thinking about buying acrylic from this posed, but I bought an used tank instead. Their tanks are pretty well mad, but they don’t have a long warranty on their tanks; that shouldn’t matter with acrylic sheets though. http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=26

Tips on aquarium accessories needed to build your own fish tank aquarium

If you are considering building your own fish aquarium for the first time then there are some fish tank accessories that you must have before you start, people who are new to fish aquariums often get confused by all the different accessories available.

Below you will find information on fish tank accessories we trust you find helpful in making your decision on accessories to buy.

1 Filters

You must do absolutely certain you buy the correct filtration system for your fish tank, the 1 way to make certain you have the correct system is to find out how many gallons of irrigate your tank will hold and how many fish you intend to keep. The filtrated systems will be rated by these factors so it is significant you get them right, you will find that you will likely want to add even more fish to your tank once it is established. A good tip for doing this is once you know what surface of filter you need for your tank always buy one slightly bigger, this saves you money by not having to buy another filter when you add more fish.

2  Aquarium Pumps

The aquarium pump is another important fish tank accessory, the pump is the one piece of equipment that your fish take to stay healthy and survive in your tank. A good quality pump will circulate the irrigate through the filter and put oxygen in the water at the same time, without a pump providing the oxygen in the irrigate your fish will not survive in the tank.

3  Aquarium Plants

Aquarium plants come in many different styles and designs for you to choose from, for instance you could get the real living type plants for your aquarium. There are some issues with this type of plant, first you must consider that the plants will need some  light and substrates for them to survive in your tank. Another problem I have found with living aquarium plants are that the fish can sometimes tear them to pieces, leaving debris on the bottom which needs to be cleaned up on a regular basis.  I found that some of the artificial plants available looked just as good as the living plants (if not better) and lasted a lot longer in the tank, you also seem to have a much wider choice of different styles with the artificial range than the real plants.

4  Aquarium Ornaments

There are some beautiful aquarium ornaments available these days, with many different designs and styles the choice is endless. You should make sure you do put one or two ornaments in your tank, not only will it make the tank look great but it will also give the fish something to swim round instead of swimming round a bare tank. You can get certain types of ornaments that are incorporated with the air pump you have fitted, this will cause them to have some kind of movement every 5 seconds or so. This can be very entertaining to watch as they can come in many different styles and shapes, they can also be another fish tank accessory to keep your fish occupied.

5  Aquarium Fish

When choosing the type of fish you want to hold you should keep in mind that not all fish like to be in the same tank, this is where you should go online and do some research in to which types of fish are fit to be put in the same tank. There are some types of fish that can be very expensive to purchase, you should try to avoid this type until you have gained enough experience in keeping a fish aquarium. You can easily stock your tank with beautiful looking fish at a very reasonable cost these days, I have seen people buy very expensive fish at the beginning of there aquarium building risk only to see them die of some disease or other.

So i desire these tips will help you in making your decisions on what fish tank accessories you will need to start your aquarium, there is no doubt having an aquarium in your home tin truly heighten the look and feel of your living environment.

First, how many leds do you have? What size stepdown transformer are you going to use? With 12 leds you will need a 9v xformer (small plug in type) the leds should be wired in series( ie +to – to +to – etc) with a small resistor in series as a current limitor(anywhere from 1k to 5k if to dim use lower resistance)

The easy way is with a microcontroller that has a RTC, or do a disrupting driven RTC using a watch oscillator. The work would be in software, which I would divide into three “modules”The first would be the RTC, which simply increases a counter each cycle of the crystal oscillator (either direct or divided down). That antagonistic increases the main clock every second (32768 clock cycles), which you run minute/second/hour/day counters. The second would be the timer, which after a RTC cycle, compares the timer setting to the RTC, and if true, takes the action that timer setting is for.The 3rd would be the slope, which would drive the LEDs with PWM, based on programmed parameters over time.
