I want to build a light for the top of my aquarium out of LED’s. Can anyone show me how?

Question by polojeff2003: I want to build a light for the top of my aquarium out of LED’s. Can anyone show me how?
I assume’t understand the resistors, and forward current and all that ram. I want to be able to plug it in a wall outlet. Thanks.12 LEDS. Please give me the other info that I will need. Thanks. What size resistor should I use to get the most light?

First, how many leds do you have? What size stepdown transformer are you going to use? With 12 leds you will need a 9v xformer (small plug in type) the leds should be wired in series( ie +to – to +to – etc) with a small resistor in series as a current limitor(anywhere from 1k to 5k if to dim use lower resistance)

If that is the case, try building one with x-mas illumined. It has been done before and it s quite easy.

How to build a 12v 24hr LED on off timer and dimmable For Reef aquarium?

Question by JC: How to build a 12v 24hr LED on off timer and dimmable For Reef aquarium?
Hello i need some help, i am going to build my possessing lighting system for my aquarium. I will be using 12v high power LED’s these each have there own supplies.I would like to have a 24hr timer on and off plus maybe dim up and down at end of on period. Does anyone know how to build a timer like this which i could Program.thanks j

The easy way is with a microcontroller that has a RTC, or do a disrupting driven RTC using a watch oscillator. The work would be in software, which I would divide into three “modules”The first would be the RTC, which simply increases a counter each cycle of the crystal oscillator (either direct or divided down). That antagonistic increases the main clock every second (32768 clock cycles), which you run minute/second/hour/day counters. The second would be the timer, which after a RTC cycle, compares the timer setting to the RTC, and if true, takes the action that timer setting is for.The 3rd would be the slope, which would drive the LEDs with PWM, based on programmed parameters over time.

1 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium and Globe Ecosystem

1 Gallon Pico Reef, 1/2 gallon sealed SPS reef tank, 19 gallon bog terrarium globe, 75 gallon planted tank with Co2 injection. Keeping ecosystems in odd containers changes the chemistry and dynamics interestingly and has a direct correlation to evaporation rates, nitrate binding or export, and temperature stabilization to name a few.

For example, a fluted vase design allows for an inner-diameter resting lid, which changes the salinity and saltcreep maintenance drastically vs any other shape. It also provides an angled surface for detritus accumulation, which is easily wiped for maintenance and this is (nitrogen) export.

A small square palmtop design, with an internal plant sub-division, becomes the first and still the only longterm sealed (non evaporating) coral reef aquarium, growing acroporid coral specimens into 3 inch tabular forums documented over a two year course.
Shape matters in pico reef design, and pico reef design matters to marine biology as a whole because it influences coral morphology, allelopathy, and new observations for science unique to hyperconcentrated niche environments.
thank you for stopping by!

I invite everyone to discuss the biology or problems associated with any aquarium care, and feel free to link your own micro reefs if you keep them.

Anyone who would like to research pico reef history can start at Reefs.Org and Reefcentral around 2002 and nano-reef.com
These forums paved the way for the explosion in popularity and are 95% of the existing documentation regarding progress of this layman’s science

It seemed interesting for all of us to share pico reef design concepts on this video, so post anything you know about them please or any reference material on the matter.

nice to meet you all and thank you for watching!

I stay active enough on this forum and in the marine and fish forums it won’t be too hard to find me so we can chat about marine biology and aquatic sciences if not here. I will also help you build and stabilize these, so hit me up in the comments if you start one.
