cichlids baby protection

Check out my newborn electric yellow african cichlids…born 8/16/2007.

These are home bred ZEBRA CICHLIDS (also known as CONVICTS) and are 9 – 12 Months old ( 1″- 3″ )…

I have a freshwater aquarium (10 gallon), and it’s nice and all, but I’d like to try an aquarium with some really beautiful fish. A lot of the colorful ones are saltwater. I take care of my tank, and it’s not a big hassle. I change the water, add some chemicals, feed them, make sure everything is ok every day, and that’s about it. Is a saltwater tank significantly harder to maintain? And besides for what I just mentioned I do to take care of my freshwater tank, what additional things do I need to do to support a healthy saltwater tank?

Or would you recommend just buying a bigger tank and purchasing aggressive fish? Those seem to be really nice too. I was thinking cichlids and some others, maybe an eel too. Can peaceful fish such as my australian rainbow be put in with fish like those? Thanks, any ideas/help/comments would be appreciated.
In answer to how much I want to spend, not too much, but I don’t have a set limit. I want to make sure I get good equipment. The size I’m planning for is 55 gal. Is that a good size that will allow me some diverse fish, or is that too small? Also, as someone mentioned the lighting, is that for the coral etc., or fish? In my current freshwater tank I rarely have the lights on.

I was looking around for new fish today at petsmart, and noticed a small tank full of ‘assorted cichlids’ all under 2inches for 4$ each. I was wondering if it was possible to have a river set up tank with all cichlids? Of course, It’ll have my pleco in it that’s still growing.
If it is possible, how many could I have?

This is my 300l (ca. 75 gal.) malawi tank with fishes / cichlids / mbuna from lake Malawi, east africa. My Malawi tank / aquarium is decorated only with rocks, this is necessary because mbuna from lake malawi are rock dwelling cichlids. Mbuna like rocks, caves and sand, so the malawi tank has to be decorated with huge stones. They are quite agressive and territoral at times but belong to the most beautiful and colorful sweetwater fishes.

In my Malawi tank, i keep Labeotropheus trewavasae, Tropheops Macrophtalmus, Pseudotropheus Saulosi, Maylandia Estherae, Labidochromis Hongi and Labidochromis caeruleus (Yellow). Especially the Labeotropheus and Tropheops are mbuna / mbunas that look very good and show interesting behaviour.

Tropheops macrophthalmus is the only mbuna / cichlid / fish in my malawi tank that has got a name. And no, its not nemo! I call him “Saddam” because he is sometimes a little tyrant!

Once the filter is made connect the airpipe to the air pump place the filter totally immersed and switcj on the aie pump.The air bubbles will rise in the tube and draw water with them. As this happens water will rush in through the filter down through the holes that you melted in the bottom piece. this causes a flow through the filter.

My Malawi cichlids in a feeding frenzy over some dried seaweed. Its a 90 Gallon Tank and NOT overcrowded. my water quality is great, my fish are healthy and breed constantly. 95% of the fish in this tank were bred by me personaly
