I just bought a new fish tank that I’m filling with freshwater fish tomorrow, but I need to know if its absolutely necessary to have a canister of aquarium salt in there. Petco does it. I’ve never seen it done before so what, if any, are the benefits?

I want to get a fish tank, complete with bottom feeders, snails, and tropical fish. Nothing overwelmingly large, but something easy to take care of. I don’t mind getting the filter or heater if I have to. What do you recommend? Fish wise and equipment wise?

An in wall aquarium that can be seen from two sides. This tank has a Blue Koran Angel, Diamond Goby, Yellow Tang, Chromis, Six Line Wrasse, Chocolate Clownfish. In the near future we will be adding a Panther Grouper and some Blue Damsels.
