Answer by Mike It’s like asking how much an engine for a car cost. How big is it and how much performance are you wanting. Do you wand moderate lighting on a 20 gallon long for about $ 100+ or do you want intense lighting on a 210 gallon that could cost you $ 1000+My 20 gallon long is a very basic tank that got a lot of it’s gear as hand-me-downs from my 36 gallon beast. The price of this is…The glass… $ 30heater…. $ 25Filter…. $ 30Filter turned into refugium… $ 50Powerhead… $ 25Light fixture.. $ 100http://img546.imageshack.us/f/img11318582808.jpg/

Question by JamaicanVixen: Koi fish for an Aquarium..Opinions please? Yes, I know they are pond fish…but I absolutely love these fish. I live in NYC, so I dont have a pond. But I’m getting ready to move into a loft and I have more than enough space for the right size aquarium, I want my aquarium to have:2 Koi2 Butterfly KoiI am positive that I won’t have more than 4 Koi fish in the aquarium..As far as tank mates, I want about or maybe more of:4 Calico Shunbunkins4 Comets4 Rynkin2 Moors5 VeiltailsWhat size Tank would you recommend for these fish?Feel free to provide any advice..Thanks in Advance
Best answer:
Answer by tylw85 Just for the 4 Koi you need at least a 75 to 100 Gallon tank, to start away with, as far as the other fish you need several hundred gallons of water to keep the water clean and the fish alive, they also need lots of space. Your loft may not be able to accommodate the weight of an aquarium that surface. It would weigh 800lbs per 100 gallons at least.

Question by wbduvall: Would abstract backgrounds effect the health and well-being of Aquarium fish? One day I taped some of my abstract paintings to the back of my tank. It looked totally awesome! But would the bright colors or unnatural patterns effect the fish?
Best answer:
Answer by Twelve I doubt it. They don’t mind color too much and the patterns shouldn’t be a problem. unless the patters have a resemblance and color of a fish that’s not compatible with one or more fish in your aquarium. For example if one of the patterns has the shape of a betta’s body. and you have a betta in your tank it might see the patterns as an actual betta and attack it. However it’s extremely unlikely. So go ahead with the painting as background.
