Cool clean water and a very large tank.Your pip carp can reach close to 3 feet long. Your tank will need to be large enough to let him to turn and swim.Other than that a good filter.

Question by Grace: How can I raise KH/GH in my goldfish and Betta aquariums?
I’ve used baking soda to get the proper pH in both aquariums by raising the change water to 7.5 for the goldfish and 7.-7.2 for the Betta. Their aquariums are now stable at 7.5 for the goldfish and 7. for the Betta. The Kh and Gh are withal low-toned. Kh at 6 percent and Gh at 3.5 percent. The water is very delicate hither in NYC. Is there any other way to increase the hardness without baking soda which will increase the pH? I’ve already added aquarium salt too, if that affects it.Our tap water fluctuates pH from 6. to 7.. I found this out when I changed my Betta’s water and he stopped swam around. I checked the pH and it was down to 6.2 from 7.. The pet stores around here just use tap for bettas but they have some very still bettas. They use an API product 7.5 for goldfish but it kills live plants. My goldfish has three beautiful live plants. Are seashells limestone equivalent? Do you get limestone and coral from aquatic stores?

Salt will not affect any of the parameters you are trying to adjust. First let me say it’s a good idea to think very carefully before adjusting pH or hardness in a tank. It’s usually not needed. Those values you give are perfectly acceptable to the fish you are keeping. Personally I would adjust it one bit. Both bettas and goldfish can live comfortably in a wide range of pH and hardness values and unless your pH is below 6 I wouldn’t adjust it at all, but the adjustments you mention are well within the comfort range for both the betta and goldfish so if you like to adjust the water conditions, just continue what you are doing, it’s getting the job done.MM

that happend to my fish too. i just let it die b,c it kept came bk it went on for a month. the fish looked sooo sick so i let it be.try it agine and if it comes bk then i would just permit the goldfish die. if theres other fish in the tank they might end up getting it too. after you get the fungus gone.. if it works this time.. wash out the tank very good. to kill the germs that carry the fungus.or if ur goldfish dies however wash it out. i would say to buy new rocks and everything u have in there. or if u can clear them very good!

I have 2 different kinds of lights and while I prefer the soft incandescent, I was wondering if there was any benefit from switching to the bright fluorescent?

Question by Poffee: Comet Goldfish aquarium designing ideas?
Hello, i need some tips from fellow fish carers. I have 2 baby comet fish and 1 adult comet fish. I’m getting them a bigger tank for them. I want the tank to look absolutely beautiful and good for my fish to live in. what are some neat ideas of what decor I should put in the tank? I really prefer pictures so I could get the idea of it but it’s fine if you don’t! Thanks! (:

Big is beautiful in aquariums. You would need a 150 gallon or larger aquarium to keep these fish proportional to the tank as they grow. Clean open irrigate is beautiful. Use a tray type sump filter under the aquarium. One tray is for catching particles and is rinsed clean several times a week. Another tray is for carbon that is replaced any time the irrigate begins to appear yellowish. The biofilter split is only rinsed a bit at a time since the bacteria growing on it have to be retained. They are your “cycle” bacteria that everyone is tried to keep established, but not everyone is exactly sure what or where they are in the aquarium.Decor should be round and smooth or the fish will snag on it and be injured. Rounded rocks are natural and would be found where these fish would be found. Gravel would not. Usually they live over mud or sand. Aquarium sand is a good choice and I prefer the Estes brand that comes in many colors. I similar black or natural browns, but that is up to the individual.

well goldfish are one of the hardiest (mayhap even the hardiest) species of pet fish and are used as fish for breaking in new tanks. so i wouldn’t really worry about all that. you almost have to try to kill them.

Did you check the bottles and the package closely? It should somewhere say how many milliliters per liter/gallon to put. If not, I’d call a manufacturer. I a not familiar with this particular brand, myself.

Question by SearchingSoul: how to clean a goldfish aquarium without the fancy equipment?
Hi so I just got a goldfish with one of with a filter and a light and its a hexagon shape anyways thats not the point when looking up cleaning I learned that it needs a siphon hose etc. And i was wondering if their is a way to clean the tank and such without emptying all the water and using equipment?

Answer by RockstarMonday
First, you should NEVER empty all the water. You should never empty more than 50%. If you do, it will kill all the good bacteria that built up while the tank was cycling. This is bad… The bacteria must be present in the tank for life to sustain itself.I don’t glimpse why you think a siphon hose is a fancy piece of equipment. It is not. And they are cheap. The cheapest one costs around $ 5, and its worth it. Its the best and easiest, and really only way to do water changes. Btw, you should be changing 25% of the water once a week.
