Hello, i need some tips from fellow fish carers. I have 2 baby comet fish and 1 adult comet fish. I’m getting them a bigger tank for them. I want the tank to look absolutely beautiful and good for my fish to live in. what are some neat ideas of what decor I should put in the tank? I really prefer pictures so I could get the idea of it but it’s fine if you don’t! Thanks! (:

Big is beautiful in aquariums. You would need a 150 gallon or larger aquarium to keep these fish proportional to the tank as they grow. Clean open irrigate is beautiful. Use a tray type sump filter under the aquarium. One tray is for catching particles and is rinsed clean several times a week. Another tray is for carbon that is replaced any time the irrigate begins to appear yellowish. The biofilter split is only rinsed a bit at a time since the bacteria growing on it have to be retained. They are your “cycle” bacteria that everyone is tried to keep established, but not everyone is exactly sure what or where they are in the aquarium.Decor should be round and smooth or the fish will snag on it and be injured. Rounded rocks are natural and would be found where these fish would be found. Gravel would not. Usually they live over mud or sand. Aquarium sand is a good choice and I prefer the Estes brand that comes in many colors. I similar black or natural browns, but that is up to the individual.

Strategically place your reefs and rocks giving your fish room to hide, to actively swim, and giving your aquarium an overall natural look.

Pirate Decor

You may think of setting some pirate chests and ships in your tank for a more lively scene. Deeper blues and purples are great for the bottom raspy in a classic steal themed tank. Add some mall set around a wreck ship  and get some skull ornaments or perhaps some bury treasure to add a little zest to your fish tank.

Architectural Theme

This may be for a little bit of a more expensive setting, say an upper class living room or working den. You can create a famous architectural setting with props such as the Great Wall of China, Egyptian Ruins, Stonehenge pieces, or Asian or Indian inspired structions. These types of architectural pieces add more depth and interest to your tank. Keep the theme consistent throughout the entire tank and add a backdrop as well as a forground.

Cartoon Décor

When decorating your fish tank you may also think of cartoon characters that would suit your aquarium well. Themes like Sponge Bob Square pants and The Little Mermaid are increasingly popular choices. Try to match everything accordingly. For example if you go with a Sponge Bob theme you might want to add some bright yellow coral and other characters from the show. This is a great idea for children’s rooms.

Comets huh? good luck they are not really suitable for aquarium life ‘they can live in aquariums but its very difficult to keep them healthy in aquariums” Get them an indoor or outdoor 2000 gallon pond

i’m so moody.My teenager has drove me nuts tonight.We end up venting on each other cause she is frustrated by chores,school and band.I am sick of her gushy verbal abuse and disrespect.She ignores me ,doesn’t get to bed on time/by 11PM weeknights,has groaned over dishes and mopping the kitchen floor once a week,it’s a small kitchen,and doing some laundry,about 2 loads which she has all week to do for a 20. a week allowance.I bring her back and forth to band all week and wait up late nights on the weekends for all her football games,also take her to the docs,took her to a waterpark all passed,got all her school clothes,contacts,haircut and a 200,tattoo she wanted.She’s groaning she has nothing for the future.I’m a single mother and so Yes,I have no college money to give her and cannot afford a car or even clothes for myself.I could desparately use shoes,clothes and eyeglasses but do not complain as long as her needs are met and she still treats me like dirt.It just makes me want to quit so bad and yet I hang on for her sake.I also am a christian and she claims to be an atheist no matter what I say.She is exhausting me and stresses me out.I told her I am her mother not her friend to be talking to that way and she says that’s all you’ll ever be like I am trash.I feel so worthless and she seems to enjoy every bit of it. I am so fed up with this balony.Kids may groan about being abused but many parents are too.I’d like to tear her butt up as i’ve heard others say but don’t lay a hand on her.I am concerned for her future as I can’t give her much but her behavior is my biggest concern as I can’t see how she will work for others with her attitude.What in the world to do?????Some days she is pretty good but the bad ones are terrible and I am diabetic and highblood and she stresses me away really bad.I want the best for her nevertheless.She has a nice room,full size bed,a nice desk,aquarium,tv and playstation,radio,dvd so she is not without.I just don’t get things till mostly birthdays and xmas.I try to listen to her every single day but when she is like this,I don’t flush want to be around her.Any ideas???

I’m planning on moving up to a 20 gallon tank, and I want to make sure it is waterscaped existent nice. I am going for an instinctive, tropical freshwater look, and I was curious if anyone knew whatever good websites with nice pictures, or if they had any pictures of their own! I have two java ferns, but I want to stay away from live plants if possible. Smaller tanks (10, 20, 30 gal.) would be preferrable! :-) I don’t know how to reply on this forum, so I’m giving it my best shot! :D I am avoid live plants for two reasons:1. I’ve been told good substrate and a CO2 injector gives you the best results. That is out of my current price range.2. I don’t want the hassle at the moment.

Why would you want to rest away from live plants? They don’t require fertilizer wish many people say… Some Java Moss would look cool attatched to driftwood or rocks… you could even hang it from your filter if you have a HOB (hang on back) filter and it would cascade into the tank like a natural waterfall!Nosoop4u

Freshwater Fish Tank Design Ideas: The Biotope Aquarium

Whether you are starting your first aquarium or the next in a long line it helps significantly to have an idea of the fish tank design before you actually get going. The design includes: what types of fish are going in it; whether or not it will have live plants; tank décor elements such as rocks and logs; and the overall impression or feel that the tank should have.

Some people have strong ideas before they get started as far as what fish they desire to get and then the tank tinned be “built” around that. Others know that they want a heavily planted aquarium foremost and foremost, and the fish are secondary. Still others are basically clueless and want some ideas of where to start.

One type of aquarium projected that has grown quite popular in recent years is the biotope tank. A biotope aquarium aims to replicate a particular geographic area within the confines of an aquarium. It is a miniature version, almost an exemplary of a specific place in the world, consummate with the native planting, fish, and landscaping of that place.

A well thought out biotope aquarium can be quite impressive. Many people choose to do a tank like this if they have a particular interest in a part of the world and want to learn more about it. The more one studies and learns about the native lands that they are recreating, the better the end result will be.

With that in mind, here are just a few ideas to get you started, knowing that the only real limitation to fish tank design is your imagination.

The Amazon – This is a very popular biotope option and when done properly can be absolutely stunning. Many of the most popular fish found at pet stores are native to the Amazon basin. The cardinal tetra, cory cat, hatchet fish, and ram cichlid are all Amazonian fish, as are many others including most common tetras. One of the other wonderful aspects of the Amazon biotope is the plants. There are many beautiful species of Amazon swordplants, as well as many other plants that offer variety in leave shape, size, and color. A piece or two of driftwood helps to complete the natural Amazon landscape. Slightly soft water with a pH around 7 is best for this type of tank. African Cichlid Habitat – The central African Lakes Tanganyika and Malawi are home to the African cichlids, some of the most interesting fish that one can keep in a home aquarium. They are colorful, active, territorial, and full of personality. The biotope aquarium for these fish is one of somewhat stark appearance. The tank is all rocks and rock formations with many caves and hiding places. There are not plants in the tank as the fish will uproot them constantly. This biotope has rather hard and alkaline water just like the lakes. Your Homeland – That’s right, many people don’t consider their own backyard for fish tank design ideas, but most people live close to some very interesting fish. In North America there are sunfish, shiners, darters, and dace that are quite colorful and active. Native plants and perhaps a crayfish – there are a lot of options. One thing to look into before you just head out and collect whatever you can catch, is to check out your local laws on what can and cannot be kept. Usually the state fisheries department is the best place to turn for legalities as well as ideas for fish to keep.

Biotope aquariums can be an exciting challenge for the fish tank hobbyist and are a great opportunity to learn more roughly a specific area. When done well, the biotope tank can be one of the most impressive home fish tank designs that you can set up.
