Question by novakc2006: What kind of lighting do you need to grow live plants in your aquarium?
I begin to grow live plants in my aquarium and i desire to know what kind of lighting or illuminate you need for them. Is there a specific kind of illumine i necessitate to buy. I hope someone can help me out here.

I have a breeding pair in a tank without a light (awaiting the arrival of one) and they seem really slow, and are spending time in places where the flow of the filter isn’t as strong. Is this because of the lack of light or should I be looking at other issues?

You should be looking at other issues. Not to many fish love strong currents.

I am going to be in New York on the first of April. The endured is supposed to be pretty bad. I was believing of going to The Statue of Liberty. Chinatown, and the New York Aquarium. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The Statue of Liberty is cool, except the line can be very long. Check out Dylan’s Candy Bar and Serendipity. Their frozen hot chocolate is AMAZING. I visited the Intrepid with my family last summer, that was really cool. Also getting a tour of the city on one of those double decker buses is fun(:

I’m getting a couple live plants for my new 10g aquarium. While reading about them, I found out they have high light requirements. Would a typical incandescent hood with incandescent light bulb suffice? If not, would a flourescent hood/light work out alright? I’d really rather not get the flourescent hood unless I have to… they’re so expensive ><

a regular incandecent would work but a “halide” light bulb would be best they are brighter and benefit the plant more and they look better they are more expensive but if you want the scoop results get them you can find some on www.ebay.com www.aquabid.com www.thatpetplace.com www.marineandreef.com www.terrificpets.com www.aquariumguys.com LOL you get the drift if anyone has a question about FISH!!! email me ill get you an answer somehow

If used wrong (overdosed), yes they certainly can. Flourish should be safe as long as you follow the instructions.Other chemicals? Do your research before you go dumping random stuff in the tank, many do have side effects, may may mess with the tank natural cycles, and even kill your fish.Ian
