cheap thermometers …
cheap thermometers are bought just to show in your aquarium that you have a thermometer, otherwise it’s never accurate, if in case you want to buy a thermometer then it should cost you a bit more than the cheep ones.
and yes heaters are essential in any aquarium.

i have a heater …
i have a heater that keeps the water at 78 degrees. no adjusting or anything. when it reaches that temp it shut off and when its too cool it turns on. i think that they have water chillers out there but im not sure. if the water gets excessively hot replace about 10%with cooler water.

Was your tank well …
Was your tank well established? If not, they probably died of bad water parameters from the tank not being cycled properly. When a tank is cycled long enough, it will have beneficial bacteria which will feed off the ammonia in your tank.

I got eight neon tetras before, and they all died after like 2 days. I didn’t have a thermometer or a water cooler or heater. Should I get the water heater and stuff or stick with what I have?
