I got eight neon ...
I got eight neon tetras before, and they all died after like 2 days. I didn't have a thermometer or a water cooler or heater. Should I get the water heater and stuff or stick with what I have?

Was your tank well ...
Was your tank well established? If not, they probably died of bad water parameters from the tank not being cycled properly. When a tank is cycled long enough, it will have beneficial bacteria which will feed off the ammonia in your tank.

cheap thermometers ...
cheap thermometers are bought just to show in your aquarium that you have a thermometer, otherwise it's never accurate, if in case you want to buy a thermometer then it should cost you a bit more than the cheep ones.
and yes heaters are essential in any aquarium.

i have a heater ...
i have a heater that keeps the water at 78 degrees. no adjusting or anything. when it reaches that temp it shut off and when its too cool it turns on. i think that they have water chillers out there but im not sure. if the water gets excessively hot replace about 10%with cooler water.
